Board of Directors

Sereena King, President

Sereena King holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan and is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources.  She has close to 15 years professional HR experience with CNH, Hatch, and BHP Billiton. In addition, Sereena has spent a number of years as an instructor with the extension division at SIAST for the HR certificate program. She currently holds the position of Manager Human Resources at BHP Billiton with accountability for Projects and Operations. Sereena joined the YWCA Saskatoon Board in 2013.  In 2015, she was appointed as President-Elect, recently assuming the role of President for a 2 year term. During Sereena’s time on the board she has served on the following committees: Governance, Finance, Audit, Nomination, Recruitment, Strategic Planning, and Executive.

Jocelyn Allard, Past President

Jocelyn Allard is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Master of Professional Accounting from the University of Saskatchewan. She a Controller and Supervisor at Saskatchewan Research Council. Jocelyn joined the Board in 2008. She has been always interested in being involved in her community and she believes that this is a good chance for her to get back to her designation and support the YWCA Saskatoon. Jocelyn is in her second term as the Board President and is a member of the Executive, Governance, and Finance committees.

Brittany Walter, Treasurer

Brittany Walter is a Chartered Accountant and business professional. She has proven successful in solving complex financial reporting issues and leading project teams. Brittany is committed to her community and is involved in a number of organizations including the Princess Shop Board of Directors, READ Saskatoon Finance Committee and KPMG Coordinator for the KPMG International Accounting Seminar Series with the Hanlon Centre of International Studies at the Edwards School of Business. She joined the Board in 2014 and is a member of the Executive, Governance, and Finance committees.

Sara Daniels

Sara Carriere-Burns

Holding diplomas in both Business Administration and Human Resources, Sara currently works in the Payroll Department at Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority. With a personal mission that aligns with that of the YWCA, Sara works to support those living in poverty. Originally from Prince Albert, Sara and her family moved to Saskatoon three years ago. Sara became a YWCA Saskatoon Board member in 2015.

Arin Jorgenson

Arin Jorgenson is the Retail Corporate Performance Manager for Federated Co-operatives Limited. She holds an M.A. in Leadership from Royal Roads University and a B.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan, focusing on adult education. She is also a certified MBTI practitioner. Arin has worked in the fields of community development, organization and employee development, stakeholder and public engagement and communications. Arin has been a member of the YWCA Saskatoon Board of Directors since 2013, currently serving on the Finance Committee, past Chair of the Governance Committee and representative for Saskatoon Community Service Village Board of Directors. It is a personal and professional goal for Arin to contribute to strong, healthy organizations and communities through her volunteer work and consulting in strategy, leadership and change.

Christine McDougall

Christine McDougallWith a Master’s in Public Health, Christine has worked in various capacities in the health sector with a focus on the social determinants of health and health equity. She currently works in this area at the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Christine has worked for a number of community-based agencies and has an understanding of the challenges that many of our clients face. Christine joined the YWCA Saskatoon Board of Directors in 2015.

Tammy Richmond

Tammy Richmond is a Certified Financial Planner who has Board and governance experience. She served as the President of Business and Professional Women of Saskatoon, leading that organization through its first strategic planning process. She is passionate about supporting other women and girls to be the best that they can be and making the world a better place for women at all stages in their lives. Tammy became a YWCA Saskatoon Board Member in 2015 and is a member of the Governance committee.

Maggie Sawatsky

Maggie Sawatsky

As a Registered Social Worker, Maggie Sawatsky has held a number of roles within the Saskatoon Health Region since 2002. While a Client Care Coordinator, Maggie referred many clients to the YWCA Crisis Shelter, so understands the importance of the YWCA in Saskatoon. Having just returned to work after maternity leave with her second child, Maggie previously provided support to Parkridge Centre, a long-term care facility and is now employed at City Hospital. Maggie joined the Board in 2015.

Hilary Peterson


Hilary is a third year law student at the University of Saskatchewan and is looking at practicing Criminal or Indigenous Law upon graduation. She is interested in contributing to bettering our community by providing representation to all people, regardless of social-economic factors. Hilary joined the Board in 2016.

Tonya Wirchenko

Tonya Wirchenko holds a Masters in Political Science from the University of Saskatchewan. She has been employed at the University in a variety of roles since 1998 and currently serves as the Manager of Executive Initiatives, Office of the Vice President Research. Tonya has been very involved in her community association and has taught yoga since 2004. Tonya cares deeply about the well-being of others and is very honoured to be serving our community by joining the Board in 2015.

Nicole White


Nicole is a passionate community builder and works tirelessly to bring a voice to the marginalized in our community.  Nicole has worked with a number of non-profit organizations in Saskatoon. At AIDS Saskatoon, she worked diligently to build networks, connections, and relationships with leadership at all levels, while shedding much needed light on Saskatchewan’s HIV/AIDS epidemic.  She strives to be an authentic voice breaking down systemic barriers to create a more equitable and welcoming community for all. Nicole has recently returned to school and is studying Indigenous Social Work at the First Nations University of Canada.   She seeks to be a bridge builder with her positivity, humour, and experience. Nicole joined the Board in 2016.

Sheri Woods

Sheri WoodsSheri Woods received both her Bachelor of Arts degree and her Law degree from the University of Saskatchewan. She is a managing partner of a boutique law firm, Mokaruk and Woods Law Office, in Saskatoon. Her law practice focuses on child protection work, First Nations Child Welfare Agencies, and the legal aspects of reproductive science. Sheri is a mentor lawyer for the Counsel for Children Office in addition to frequently accepting appointments to act for children and youth in care. Sheri is a past nominee for Women of Distinction Award and has been nominated for the SK Pro Bono Service Award. She is the Co-Chair of YWCA Women of Distinction Awards committee as well as the YWCA Saskatoon’s Representative on Saskatoon Community Service Village Committee. Sheri has been a YWCA Board member since 2012.
